Congratulations to year 5 who yesterday took part in the Shepway primary performance day.

They joined over 300 children from all over Shepway to showcase music on the instruments they have been learning to play all year as part of  music plus projects.

Instruments included 30 Ukukeles, 15 Fife’s 30 plus Brass Players on Cornets and Baritones, 39 Violins, 60 plus recorders as well as groups of Djembe and hand bells and more!

As well as listening to group performances we joined together to play as a mass band.

Music ranged from a Bossa Nova where we had to improvise to a backing track making up the tune when pointed at to a drum beat and polyrhythms on djembe  with added “Shave and a haircut - shampoo”

Martello children joined with children from St Eanswythe to perform “Airport” on violins.

Then they confidently performed “Trolls” based on the hall of the mountain king and were praised for their piece which demonstrated pizzicato and use of the bow.

We listened to the Harvey Grammar band perform “wipeout” and then with some encouragement from our teachers all joined in with actions to YMCA.

The day finished with a mass performance of Mamma Mia with everyone singing and playing together!

Thanks to Mrs Driscoll, peripatetic teachers from KoDaH music and Owl Music as well as the Harvey Grammar Staff for organising this musical showcase!
